Network Perimeter Security

Definitions

1. The controls placed at network boundaries to monitor, filter, or restrict traffic entering and leaving an environment, such as firewalls, gateways, DDoS protections, and VPN concentrators. It remains important, but modern architectures recognize that the perimeter is no longer the only trust boundary that matters.

   In plain English: Security controls at the edge of a network that manage incoming and outgoing traffic.

   Example: "Strong network perimeter security blocked commodity scans, but the real exposure came from an overprivileged VPN account."
