Definitions

1. The overall set of rules, principles, and management decisions that define what network traffic should be permitted, denied, logged, or inspected by a firewall. A firewall policy reflects business needs, trust boundaries, and risk tolerance, not just individual technical rules.

   In plain English: The rules and decisions that determine how a firewall treats traffic.

   Example: "The problem wasn't the appliance; it was a firewall policy that allowed far more east-west traffic than intended."
