Definitions

1. The protection of systems and traffic at the network or application edge, where requests first meet services such as CDNs, reverse proxies, gateways, and edge compute nodes. It includes WAF rules, bot controls, TLS policy, abuse prevention, and secure configuration of distributed edge infrastructure.

   In plain English: Security controls applied where outside traffic first reaches a service.

   Example: "Edge security blocked the bot flood before it reached the origin application."
