Host Scanning

Definitions

1. The inspection of hosts to identify open services, installed software, vulnerabilities, or configuration state. Host scanning can be performed by defenders for asset visibility or by attackers looking for exploitable entry points.

   In plain English: Checking computers or servers to see what they are running and whether they have weaknesses.

   Example: "Routine host scanning found several web servers that were still running unsupported packages."
