  1. An element that influences how likely or impactful a security issue is, such as exposure, weak authentication, missing monitoring, asset criticality, or attacker capability. Risk factors are the inputs that make two similar technical findings differ in real-world priority.

    In plain English: A condition or detail that makes a risk higher or lower.

    Example: "Internet exposure was the decisive risk factor that pushed the appliance vulnerability above several higher-CVSS internal findings."
