Risk Reduction

Noun · Security & Infosec

Definitions

  1. The decrease in the likelihood or impact of a risk after controls, remediation, redesign, or operational changes are put in place. Risk reduction is the actual outcome organizations seek, not merely the number of tickets closed or policies written.

In plain English: The amount a risk is lowered after actions are taken.

Example: "Token rotation by itself gave some risk reduction, but the big improvement came from removing the long-lived admin secret entirely."
