Deflection

Definitions

1. The rerouting of malicious or unwanted traffic away from a protected service toward a scrubbing center, sinkhole, or other mitigation path. Deflection is common in DDoS response because it buys time without exposing the origin directly.

   In plain English: Redirecting hostile traffic away from the real target.

   Example: "Once the flood began, the provider enabled deflection so the traffic hit their scrubbing edge instead of the customer origin."
