Penetration Test

Definitions

1. An authorized security assessment in which testers attempt to exploit weaknesses in systems, applications, or environments to demonstrate real attack paths and their impact. A penetration test goes beyond scanning by validating whether vulnerabilities are actually exploitable in context.

   In plain English: An authorized attempt to break into a system to find and prove real weaknesses.

   Example: "The penetration test showed that one low-severity misconfiguration and one forgotten default password combined into full admin access."
