Product-Market Fit

Noun · Startup & VC

Definitions

  1. The point at which a product satisfies strong market demand — users actively seek it out, retention is high, and growth becomes organic. Marc Andreessen's definition: 'being in a good market with a product that can satisfy that market.' The single most important milestone for a startup. You know you have it when you can't keep up with demand.

In plain English: When your product is something people actually want badly enough that it starts growing on its own.

Example: "We knew we had product-market fit when the support queue was longer than the feature backlog and users were furious about any downtime."
