GMV

Abbreviation · Startup & VC

Definitions

  1. Gross merchandise value or volume, the total value of goods or transactions flowing through a marketplace or commerce platform before take rate and refunds are fully accounted for. GMV is useful for scale, but it is not the same as company revenue.

In plain English: The total value of transactions flowing through a platform before the platform takes its cut.

Example: "GMV doubled, but take rate compression kept net revenue growth more modest."
