Definitions

1. To rely on real users or live systems as the proving ground for a change, intentionally or by neglect. In engineering slang, testing in production can be disciplined with safeguards or reckless when used as a substitute for preparation.

   In plain English: Using the live production environment to discover whether something works.

   Example: "They effectively tested in production by skipping the realistic load rehearsal and trusting the canary to reveal everything important."
