  1. Short for recovery point objective, the maximum acceptable amount of data loss measured in time after an incident or outage. RPO helps determine backup frequency, replication needs, and how much transactional loss a business can tolerate during recovery.

    Example: "The finance system's RPO was fifteen minutes, so nightly backups alone were never going to meet the recovery requirement."
