RTO

Definitions

1. Short for recovery time objective, the maximum acceptable time a system or service can remain unavailable after a disruption. RTO is used in continuity planning to drive redundancy, staffing, automation, and restoration priorities.

   In plain English: The maximum amount of downtime a system can have before recovery is considered too slow.

   Example: "The identity platform had a one-hour RTO, so restoring it from scratch was not acceptable for the business impact involved."
