A formal document issued by a buyer inviting vendors to respond to specified requirements, pricing, and implementation details. RFPs are common in enterprise and public-sector procurement and often lengthen sales cycles substantially.
In plain English: A formal buyer document asking vendors to propose how they would solve a need.
Example: "The request for proposal looked routine until security and legal sections expanded it into a quarter-long process."
