Budget

Noun · Development

Definitions

  1. A defined limit on resources such as money, CPU time, latency, memory, build minutes, or engineering effort that a team or system is expected to stay within. Budgets are used in development to make tradeoffs explicit instead of pretending performance, cost, and delivery time are unlimited.

In plain English: A limit on resources such as time, money, or performance that a team or system should stay within.

Example: "The feature met product requirements, but it missed the mobile performance budget by adding too much JavaScript to the initial page load."
