A family of software licenses originally associated with Perl, designed to allow modification and redistribution with conditions intended to preserve distinction between standard and modified versions. It is historically important but less common in modern project defaults.
In plain English: An older software license, especially associated with Perl, that allows reuse under specific conditions.
Example: "The dependency still used the Artistic License, which forced legal to double-check compatibility assumptions."
