Casual social conversation not primarily aimed at solving a technical problem or making a decision. In engineering culture it is sometimes undervalued, even though it plays an important role in trust, belonging, and remote-team cohesion.
In plain English: Light casual conversation that helps people connect socially.
Example: "The remote team improved once people stopped treating small talk as wasted meeting time."
