Role Mapping

Definitions

1. The process of connecting external groups, attributes, or business functions to internal application or system roles. Role mapping is common in federation, SSO, and SaaS onboarding where identity claims must translate into usable permissions inside the target platform.

   In plain English: Connecting identity attributes or groups to the correct application roles.

   Example: "The integration bug was in role mapping: contractors were being placed into employee admin roles because the external group translation was too broad."
