Role Separation

Definitions

1. The deliberate division of responsibilities and permissions across different roles so no single person or system can complete a sensitive workflow alone. Role separation reduces fraud, insider abuse, and single-point failures in high-impact processes such as payments, identity, and change control.

   In plain English: Splitting responsibilities so one role does not have too much power on its own.

   Example: "Role separation prevented the same engineer from both approving and deploying a production access-policy change."
