Definitions

1. To isolate a system, dataset, account, or environment from broader access so risk is contained within a defined boundary. In security operations, ring-fencing is used during incidents and for sensitive assets that need tighter control than the rest of the environment.

   In plain English: To isolate something so it is protected and any damage stays contained.

   Example: "The team ring fenced the legacy payroll application behind a dedicated segment and separate admin workflow until it could be replaced."
