  1. The deliberate separation of systems or segments so traffic between them is prevented or tightly controlled. Network isolation is used both for architecture, such as separating critical systems, and for incident response, such as cutting off a compromised host or subnet.

    In plain English: Separating systems on the network so they cannot communicate freely.

    Example: "The responders used network isolation to stop ransomware from reaching the backup management segment."
