Jump Box

Definitions

1. A hardened intermediary system that administrators must connect through before reaching sensitive internal hosts. Jump boxes centralize privileged access, logging, and network restrictions instead of allowing direct management from many endpoints.

   In plain English: A controlled intermediate system used to access sensitive internal machines.

   Example: "The production database could only be reached through the monitored jump box on the admin subnet."
