Public Network

Definitions

1. A network environment that is broadly accessible and not under the exclusive control of the organization using it, such as the public internet or shared Wi-Fi. Security designs treat public networks as inherently untrusted, requiring encryption, authentication, and minimal exposure assumptions.

   In plain English: A network that is open or shared and should not be assumed trustworthy.

   Example: "The kiosk was built for use on a public network, so every backend connection was pinned, authenticated, and encrypted."
