Process Execution

Definitions

1. The launching and running of a program or command on a system, including its arguments, parent process, privileges, and child behavior. Process execution is one of the most important signals in endpoint security because many attacks eventually have to run code somewhere.

   In plain English: The act of a program or command starting and running on a system.

   Example: "The EDR alert was triggered by unusual process execution from a document reader spawning a hidden PowerShell child."
