Multi-Layered Defense

Definitions

1. A security approach that uses several complementary controls at different layers so the failure of one does not immediately lead to full compromise. Multi-layered defense is stronger than a single barrier because prevention, detection, segmentation, and recovery can all work together.

   In plain English: Using several different kinds of security controls so one failure does not expose everything.

   Example: "The breach was contained quickly because multi-layered defense meant stolen credentials alone were not enough to reach production databases."
