Definitions

1. Short for managed security service provider, a company that delivers outsourced security functions such as monitoring, device management, alert triage, firewall administration, or incident support. MSSPs differ in maturity, so customers must understand whether the provider only forwards alerts or actually investigates and acts.

   In plain English: A company that provides outsourced security services.

   Example: "The MSSP managed the firewalls and SIEM, but identity threat hunting still sat with the internal security team."
