MDR
Abbreviation · Security & Infosec
Definitions
Short for managed detection and response, a service where an external security team monitors telemetry, investigates alerts, and often helps contain threats on behalf of a customer. MDR is usually more hands-on than traditional outsourced monitoring because it includes analyst judgment and response actions.
In plain English: A service where an outside team monitors for threats and helps respond to them.
Example: "They switched from basic alert forwarding to MDR so suspicious endpoint activity would be investigated overnight instead of waiting until morning."
