  1. The risk that employees, contractors, or other trusted users could intentionally or accidentally cause harm through misuse of access, policy violations, data leakage, or sabotage. Insider risk includes both malicious insiders and ordinary mistakes made by people with legitimate privileges.

    In plain English: The danger that trusted people inside an organization could cause security harm.

    Example: "The review focused on insider risk because the compromised dataset was only accessible to a small internal group."
