Definitions

1. The requirement or policy that certain data be stored and sometimes processed within a particular geographic region or legal jurisdiction. Data residency matters because laws, regulators, and customer contracts may limit where data can physically live.

   In plain English: A rule about which country or region data must stay in.

   Example: "The customer required EU data residency, so logs and backups had to stay in-region too."
