Definitions

1. The numerical severity score assigned under the Common Vulnerability Scoring System, intended to estimate the technical seriousness of a vulnerability. CVSS is useful for triage, but real-world risk still depends on exploitability, exposure, and business context.

   In plain English: A standardized vulnerability severity score used to help prioritize fixes.

   Example: "The CVSS score was high, but the asset was internal-only and heavily segmented, so remediation priority was debated."
