Zone of Proximal Development

Definitions

1. A concept borrowed from education for the space where someone can succeed with guidance even if they cannot yet do the task alone. In engineering slang, it is sometimes used when assigning stretch work that teaches without overwhelming.

   In plain English: The learning zone where a person can do something with help, even if they cannot do it alone yet.

   Example: "The staff engineer framed the migration task as zone-of-proximal-development work, giving the newer hire enough support to learn without letting the risk get irresponsible."
