1. The visual and interactive layer through which a human interacts with software, encompassing graphical elements (GUI), command-line prompts (CLI), or other modalities like voice and touch. UI design concerns layout, responsiveness, accessibility, and the mapping between user intent and system behavior.

   In plain English: Everything you see and click on when you use an app or website — the buttons, menus, and screens that let you control the software.

   Example: "The backend is solid but the user interface is so confusing that customers keep calling support to do basic tasks."
