  1. To restart a system, device, service, or by extension a stalled effort so it begins again from a clean state. In tech culture it is both a literal operations action and a metaphor for resetting plans, teams, or products.

    In plain English: To restart something so it can begin fresh.

    Example: "We tried to patch the node in place, but eventually had to reboot and drain it properly."
