Encryption applied from the point where sensitive data is captured to the point where it reaches a trusted decryption environment, commonly used in payment systems to protect cardholder data from interception inside merchant networks. The term is often shortened to P2PE in payment security discussions.

    In plain English: Encrypting sensitive data from the moment it is captured until it reaches a trusted endpoint.

    Example: "The retailer deployed point-to-point encryption so card data was encrypted immediately in the terminal before crossing the store network."
