Definitions

1. The protection of operational technology environments such as industrial controllers, building systems, utilities, and manufacturing equipment that interact with physical processes. OT security emphasizes safety, uptime, legacy constraints, and real-world consequences in ways that differ from standard enterprise IT security.

   In plain English: Security for systems that monitor or control physical equipment and industrial processes.

   Example: "The plant's OT security model prioritized safe fail states and segmented remote maintenance paths over aggressive endpoint controls."
