Network Probe

Definitions

1. A device, service, or software sensor that observes and records network traffic, metadata, or protocol behavior for analysis. Network probes are used in IDS, NDR, performance monitoring, and forensics to provide visibility into communications on a link or segment.

   In plain English: A sensor that watches network traffic for analysis.

   Example: "The network probe on the east-west segment captured the lateral movement traffic that the host logs missed."
