Definitions

1. Short for man-in-the-middle, an attack in which an adversary intercepts, relays, or alters communications between two parties while pretending to each side that the connection is legitimate. MITM attacks can target network traffic, authentication exchanges, or application sessions depending on the protocol and controls in place.

   In plain English: An attack where someone secretly gets in between two communicating parties.

   Example: "The rogue Wi-Fi hotspot enabled a MITM setup that intercepted the victim's traffic before it reached the real site."
