1. Informal language for talking about systems, data, or workflows whose failure has severe consequences. In engineering slang, calling something mission-critical can be precise or just a way of demanding more attention than usual.

   In plain English: Casual jargon around systems or work considered extremely important to keep running.

   Example: "The team used mission critical slang around the billing pipeline, but the useful follow-up question was which exact recovery time and data-loss tolerances that phrase was supposed to imply."
