Manual Override

Definitions

1. A mechanism or procedure that lets humans bypass normal automation or policy in order to regain control. In engineering slang, manual overrides are essential escape hatches and also evidence that perfect automation does not exist.

   In plain English: A way for humans to bypass normal automated control.

   Example: "The incident stabilized only after someone used the manual override to stop the retry storm while the automation rules were still fighting the wrong problem."
