  1. The act of raising an event or investigation to a higher severity, broader response team, or more senior authority when evidence shows greater risk or impact. Incident escalation must happen quickly enough to matter but carefully enough to avoid needless disruption.

    In plain English: Raising an incident to a higher level of urgency or authority.

    Example: "Once domain admin activity was confirmed, the case moved from analyst triage to incident escalation."
