1. A development approach centered on backend systems that expose content or functionality through APIs without being tied to a single presentation layer. In practice it often refers to headless CMS, commerce, or platform work where frontend clients are decoupled from core services.

   In plain English: Building systems so the backend works independently from the user interface.

   Example: "Once mobile and web needed different experiences, the team moved toward headless development."
