1. To push through a problem by rough trial, brute force, and rapid edits rather than through elegant design. In engineering slang, hack and slash can be effective in emergencies and ugly in long-term architecture.

   In plain English: To solve a problem with rough brute-force coding rather than elegant design.

   Example: "They had to hack and slash through the importer outage to stop the immediate bleeding, but nobody pretended that was the state they wanted to preserve."
