  1. An immediate switch from old to new without a long overlap period. In engineering slang, flash cuts are efficient when they work and terrifying when rollback paths or compatibility gaps are weak.

    In plain English: A sudden direct cutover from old to new with little or no overlap.

    Example: "The database team rejected a flash cut because the read path could be migrated gradually, but the write path still had too many unknown client assumptions."
