The cryptographic key used to convert ciphertext into plaintext, either directly in symmetric systems or as the private component in appropriate asymmetric schemes. Control of the decryption key usually matters more than control of the encrypted file itself.
In plain English: The key needed to read encrypted data.
Example: "The backup was encrypted properly, but the decryption key was left in the same automation account."
