Data Privacy
Noun · Security & Infosec
Definitions
The discipline of controlling how personal or sensitive data is collected, used, shared, retained, and deleted in line with expectations, law, and policy. It overlaps with security, but privacy is about appropriate use as well as protection from attackers.
In plain English: The rules and practices for using people's data appropriately and carefully.
Example: "The feature was secure enough technically, but it still failed data privacy review because the collection purpose was too broad."
