1. The inspection and restriction of content based on rules about type, source, category, or risk, often used for web traffic, email, chat, or uploaded files. Content filtering reduces exposure to malware, policy violations, and harmful material.

   In plain English: Screening content and blocking what violates rules or looks unsafe.

   Example: "The gateway's content filtering blocked the attachment because it matched a risky file-type and macro policy combination."
