Definitions

1. A contest where participants solve programming problems under constraints such as time, correctness, or efficiency. Coding competitions are a major subculture in computer science and can be both excellent training and a distorted proxy for real-world engineering.

   In plain English: A contest where people compete by solving coding problems.

   Example: "He loved coding competition problems, though he was the first to admit they rewarded a very different skill set from maintaining a large production service."
