Code Fairy

Noun · Slang & Abbreviations

Definitions

  1. A joking reference to the imaginary force that people act as if will eventually clean up code, fix tests, or write docs for them. In engineering slang, the code fairy is what teams invoke when they defer obvious maintenance work without assigning ownership.

In plain English: An imaginary helper people pretend will eventually fix or clean up the code for them.

Example: "They merged the workaround assuming the code fairy would come back later for refactoring, but of course later never got scheduled."
