Boot Sector Virus

Definitions

1. Malware that infects the boot sector or master boot record so it executes before the operating system fully loads. Boot sector viruses were especially notorious on older PCs because they could persist deeply and evade normal file-based assumptions.

   In plain English: A virus that infects the part of a disk used to start the computer.

   Example: "The forensic image showed a boot sector virus designed to start before the OS security tools were active."
