  1. An ordered list of work items (features, bugs, technical debt) awaiting implementation. In Scrum, the Product Backlog is the single source of requirements. In reality, it's where good ideas go to queue indefinitely.

    In plain English: The to-do list of features and fixes waiting to be built — always longer than the team can handle, always growing.

  2. Used as a verb: to backlog something means to acknowledge a request while deprioritizing it indefinitely. 'We'll backlog that' is often a polite way of saying 'that's never going to happen.'

    Example: 'The feature request from the sales team? We backlogged it. It's sitting behind 200 other items that are also never getting built.'
